Suggested Reading ~ Roots Magazine Japan

A new magazine has just premiered in Japan. The magazine features a mixture of Kustoms, Lowriders, Harleys, Choppers, Art, Tattoos and Apparel.  I got a preview of this from my friend Takashi (Lowrider Magazine Japan) a couple of months back. The magazine has finally released so I got a call from my local Japanese book store to pick up my copy. Like all Japanese magazines the magazine is high quality. The content and the photography are very nice. The premier volume features Jack Rudy and the Beatniks Koolsvile Car Club, Joe & Frankie Epstein, Pachuco Car Club, Tom Foster, Chopper Dave, Mark Mahoney and a feature on Conrad from Classic Memories CC. I really like the content of the magazine. Get yours at your local Japanese bookstore.

Bring it on!

if you were watching the Academy Awards last night (which I wasn’t), then you saw the new commercial for the iPad. I think as we get closer to it’s release and when it does finally release, we will see a whole bunch of “haters” flip the script and go out and pick one up. Sure the first gen is not gonna be perfect, but it looks fun, entertaining, and like it will be a valuable tool to an artist/designer’s arsenal. I’ve decided I want to pick up the first gen, maybe entry level wi-fi model, just to test the waters and see how I like it. Hopefully before my trip to China towards the end of April. Then when the next gen comes out, go for the upgrade with 3G and all. Tell me this doesn’t look like loads of fun!

The Low Down…

Greetings Zombies! Hope everyone had a great weekend. If you didn’t notice already on Friday, we lowered the prices in the Gangsterbilly Shop! All tees are now $18/each, Raglans are $22/each, Hoodies are $35/each, and Coaches Jackets are now $40/each. We are testing the prices to see how things go, we’ll see if it sticks. So tell your friends or grab you some new Gangsterbilly gear at these low prices while you can.

Overall our weekend was good, busy as usual, but took a break with the family to go check out Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It’s a great new take on the classic tale. A little bit of the old, with a little bit of new, a lot of visual candy, a great score by Danny Elfman, and done the way only Tim Burton can do it. March Hare was awesome, all the characters and creatures were done perfect, and Johnny Depp was the perfect Mad Hatter! Make sure you check it out! “There is a place like no place on earth. Some say to survive it you need to be as mad as a Hatter, which luckily I am.”

Happy 78th Birthday Johnny!!!

I really wish I would have got to see the man in black live before he passed back in 2003. I don’t have to tell you how much I Love His Music! It’s always on the daily rotation. Legends never die. Just yesterday Apple Inc. announced it’s 10 billionth song sold/downloaded since the iTunes store opened in 2003 was “Guess Things Happen That Way” by none other than Johnny Cash! That is awesome! If you haven’t picked up “Amercian VI: Ain’t No Grave”, get it now. His last studio album. Rest in Peace Johnny, and Happy 78th Birthday!!!

Whitewall Wednesday!

Let’s shake things up and make this week’s whitewall wednesday a die-cast piece. This one was created by Bryan Johnson. He was named the Maisto “Designer’s Pick” at the Diecast Super Convention in Las Vegas this past weekend.  He had a handful of entries that were all equally amazingly detailed. Here’s a photo of one of his entries, the Rat Tub. This is a 1/64 car with a wired engine, hand-formed metal bomber seats and beautiful paintwork. Great Job Brian!

Hellbilly Deluxe!

I wanted to share this sketch I’ve been doodling when I have a little free time. It’s starting to come together finally. I’m gonna start posting more of my concepts and possible t-shirt artwork up here. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
